MECEBHL RULEBOOK

The MECEBHL rulebook is simple… there are no refs so we simply ask that people play clean and use common sense as much as possible. For instance, when the goalie freezes the ball, the opposing team should give the other team some space to play the ball. Same goes after a goal (team who got scored on takes the ball from their end).

Aside from using fair play, here are the other rules:

1- There are 4 teams in the league this Summer. Each team will be playing 2 games per day. Each game will last 50 minutes and all teams will have a 10-minute break in between their first and second game. After each game, it will be the Captain’s (or assistant-captain) job to let Howard know of the score so we can write it down and keep a proper standing. We will have playoffs on the last weekend. The highest ranking team will be playing the lowest while the 2nd and 3rd place teams will square off. The winning teams will then meet up and play to win the Mile-End Cup. First weekend will be exhibition matches to make sure teams are even.

2- Balls: Each team should bring their own practice balls for warm up. League will hand out the official liquid-filled no bounce balls for the games. There is no netting around the fields so please make sure you retrieve the balls when they go out. These balls are a bit expensive so every ball you save is 2-3 more beers for the end of the year party; I think it’s worth taking 30 seconds during the game to go after one that went out!!!

3- Again, PLAY CLEAN. We understand that everybody wants to win and want to drink from the cup, but let’s keep this league fun and limit the pushing and yelling and complaining. Please remember that we are lucky to be able to play hockey once a week with 55 other guys and girls instead of being at home and watching episodes of Night Court, Mr. Belevdere or Perfect Strangers on youtube. Now if it was The Wonder Years, it’d be different.

4- Thank Howard after every game for taking the time to organize all this. It takes a lot more time and work than you think.
